Humane Society of Tampa Bay

Guides for Pets and Their People

Six pages on what this shelter actually does, written for the moment somebody needs an answer: adopting, the clinic fees, cats living outside, help keeping a pet, and which shelter in Tampa to call.

What is here

Six guides from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. What the shelter and clinic offer, how adoption works and what it costs, published spay and neuter fees, what to do about stray and community cats, the help available to keep a pet at home, and how this shelter differs from the county Pet Resource Center.

Why these are here

People arrive at a shelter website in the middle of something. A dog they want to meet. A bill they cannot pay. A cat that has appeared in the yard and will not leave. A landlord who has changed the rules.

Each page below answers one of those, from what the shelter publishes, with the fees and the hours in the text rather than buried in a form.

What these will not do

They cannot tell you which animal is right for your home. That happens in the building, with the dog in front of you and somebody who knows it standing next to you.

They also age. Fees, hours and programmes change, and each page carries the date it was last read through so you can see how fresh it is.

Questions about these pages

Who wrote them?

They were written from what the shelter publishes. Every fee, hour and phone number came off the shelter’s own pages, and anything without a solid answer was left out rather than filled in with something that sounded right.

Why is there a page about the county shelter?

Because people do not always know which one to call, and calling the wrong one costs an animal time. That page uses what each organisation publishes about itself.

How current are they?

Each page carries the date it was last read through. When fees, hours or programmes change, the pages change with them.

Come and see us

Adoptions are same day and first come, first served at both campuses, 10 AM to 5 PM. Clinic and intake services run by appointment, and the team talks through the options before anything is decided.
